I haven’t had the pleasure of using an iPhone 5 yet, so I can’t give any kind of hands-on impressions. With that said, here’s the list of features that I wanted from Apple:
Here’s what we ended up getting:
- A bigger screen that has a better aspect ration for video, more saturation, and pixels that are closer to the surface
- LTE 4G that’s almost absurdly fast
- Despite getting a bigger screen and being taller than the 4S, the iPhone 5 is thinner and weighs significantly less
- A better camera
- A processor that’s literally a generation ahead of the competition
Despite all of this, a large portion of the tech press finds the new iPhone boring. These writers are idiots.
2 million people preordered this thing in a day. You know what “boring” is going to do for Apple? Bring in over $20 billion in revenue this quarter. Apple doesn’t want to make something wildly different every generation. They got most of this stuff right the first time, and for the last 5 years all they’ve had to do was tweak. Just make things that little bit better. As far as I can tell, Apple simply uses the latest technology to bring their products closer to an ideal that was evident in the very first generation.
God, I can’t wait for the 5S.
